Tips for Working Around Injuries

injuries

One of the more frustrating things to deal with in life is injuries. They can be persistent and nagging; they prevent us from doing everyday activities in peace and rob us of finding joy in movement.

Injuries can happen for several reasons: such as an acute event such as falling and hurting a back or hand or more frustrating is when you wake up with a newfound discomfort, which is often caused by years of the body compensating due to environmental factors such as work, hobbies, stress, and so on.

In today’s video, I talk about some common workarounds.

Injuries should not prevent you from living a healthy lifestyle; do not let that be an excuse. There is always a way to improve your quality of life. When dealing with an injury, follow these steps:

  1. It is always best to have a physical therapist or doctor check out a new injury.
  2. Workaround the injury and let it rest for a few days or a week. For example, if you hurt your shoulder, focus on your legs, core, and the other arm.
  3. Work within your pain-free range of motion. For example, if your knees are sore, do a 1/4 squat this will strengthen the legs and, over time, can help decrease the soreness.
  4. Work on the surrounding area’s mobility and stability to help prevent injuries in the future. When injuries pop up, the injuries area is often not the source of the problem but where it is showing up. For example, a sore lower back is often a hip and upper back issue than a purely lower back problem.
