Fun Exercise You Should Try: Strap Press and Row

strap press and row

I am always keeping an eye out for new versions of established exercises. For an exercise to even make it on the gym floor, it must go through a grueling evaluation, and if it passes all the standards, we will add it to our exercises library.

Standards

  • Is it safe
  • Is it practical
  • Is it easy for our clients to learn
  • Is the set up not overly complicated
  • Is it fun or empowering

I came across the Strap Press and Row while scrolling my Instagram, and I loved the idea of it. Let me tell you, there are a lot of straight-up dumb shenanigans that go on in the Instagram exercise world. So it was a joy to stumble upon this little beauty of an exercise.

What I love about this exercise is the functionality. Back supported presses are excellent but never happen in real life, overhead pressing is practical, but most people can’t do it without jacking up their shoulders. Bent over rows are great but can be problematic with lower backs.

The Strap Press and Row has it all. You have to support yourself while pressing, and with the motion of the straps, it allows you to go overhead, much like a Landmine Press, safely. With the rowing, you are in a seated position and the force of gravity and the weight are not both pulling you down into spinal flexion.
