Finding Your Way Back

It was early Spring, and I was hiking a familiar mountain that I had to have hiked ten times. The trail was well marked with blue spray paint on trees and granite rock faces, and there were cairns to help you stay on the trail.

At some point on my way back down the mountain, I found myself in a pleasant grove of pine trees and a mixture of mosses and ferns; it was very nice. The only problem was I had no idea where I was. I had zoned out and found myself lost.

How could this have happened? I had hiked this trail a million times, or ten, and I had no idea where I was; lucky for me, I was a boy scout, and I could read the position of the sun and the direction of the wind and knew that hawks only build a nest on the north side of a tree. So ok, from “boy scout” on is a lie.

What actually happened was I pulled my cell phone out and hoped I had services to use google maps to get me back on the trail. Once I knew where I was and where that actual path was, I quickly got back on track and safely down the mountain.

It is easy in our fitness journey to fall off track even when the steps are marked out. For example, eating less, moving more, sleeping more, and eating vegetables.

During your fitness journey, you will need to stop and pick your head up to make sure you are still on the path; for people looking for weight loss, that is doing an Inbody every 4-6 weeks for a strength goal that is testing a lift every 4-6 weeks. If everything is on pace, we keep going, but if not, it gives us time to reset and get back on the path with a meeting with your coach.

Suppose you find yourself a little lost on your fitness journey or want some guidance along the way. Please reach out, and we can find a time to meet.

Your Fitness Sherpa,
Josh
