Developing Rotational Power

Tis the season for thoughts of Spring, whistling song birds, and rotational power (wait what?).

Yes, rotational power.

Sprint training has just begun for baseball, lacrosse season is just around the corner, and don’t forget your field sports like shot-put and discuss. What makes these sports similar to one another is they all involve being able to create power through rotation of the hips and shoulders.

How do you go about developing rotation?

Well you have to understand that there is musculature connecting the hips and shoulders, often named the core. This super highway of muscles will transfer power generated from the lower body to the upper extremities. A combination of mobility (shoulders and hips), connectivity (moving of the hips and shoulders together), and rigidity (in the core musculature) will result in generating the maximum amount of rotational power.

I talk about a few exercises that will help you get the most out of your core in this weeks post.
